Labour isn't to the right of Democrats. It is that Labor is trying to copy the unsuccessful strategies of Democrats who try to be Republican-lite. Just look how Charlie Crist fared in Florida, compared to more liberal Democrats all over the rest of America. His candidacy resulted from the state party swinging hard to the right and choosing a very conservative chair, not a moderate at all. (Ironically, Crist's personal policy positions directly echo those of House Democrats which are the bastion of liberal progressive pragmatism in America.) Yet, Florida's voters punished him - Democratic voters particularly - by not showing up and I heard many loud complaints that they wouldn't show up to vote for a former Republican. He did worse than a progressive Democrat in 2018 by a 20 point margin.
