GOP Rep. forced to stop opposing Trump and KKK to join Desantis Campaign
Miami Republican State Rep. Jeanette Nuñez was a respected #NeverTrump member of the legislature this week, until she threw in the towel on decency and joined Congressman Ron DeSantis’ gubernatorial campaign.
The Republican gubernatorial nominee tapped Rep. Nuñez as his running mate for Lieutenant Governor for the political reason of “balancing the ticket” by bringing in a politician from south Florida and seeking to attract the women voters, which polls say are spurning his campaign.
The DeSantis campaign has been reeling since the candidate went on Fox News the morning after winning the primary to use a blatant racial slur against Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum, which even the right-wing television network later condemned.
Which brings us to Rep. DeSantis’ choice of a Latina woman to join his gubernatorial campaign, an organization that doesn’t even mention the word Florida in its campaign commercials, instead preferring to push racist innuendo (with his own children on camera) about building walls to keep people of Hispanic descent from crossing the Mexican border. I wonder if anyone told Rep. DeSantis that Florida’s main problem is not the lack of walls on our beaches, but rather the toxic pollution flooding our shorelines on both coasts after the EPA delegated the state’s water regulatory authority to the state’s Department of Environmental Protection and two-decades of single party GOP rule. (Not to mention the state’s willful blindness towards Democratic polluter, Philip Levine.)
Politico’s Marc Caputo found out that Rep. Nuñez was getting the nod, and dug up a single, amazing tweet about Trump from her opposing the KKK, declaring herself #NeverTrump and warning her constituents about a con-man.
Her tweet proves that in order to keep her political appointment to run in the statewide race for Lt. Governor as a Republican, Rep. Nuñez had to stop opposing racism and support keeping an impotently ignorant, amoral President inside the Oval Office, because that is the only position that Rep. DeSantis’ campaign has sold to voters.
Here’s the tweet Rep. Nuñez deleted to get on Donald Trump’s good side:
