Billionaire MLS franchise owner trolls kids charity he’s kicking out of Miami’s only public golf course

The billionaire co-owner of Miami’s MLS soccer franchise just posted a tweet trolling the disabled and disadvantaged kids he’s kicking out of Miami’s only public golf course.

Sprint Corporation’s Executive Chairman Marcelo Claure posted a photo of a fancy custom-made golf bag with his embattled soccer franchise Inter Miami CF’s logo and colors saying “let’s hope that it helps me improve my golf game.”

It’s a subtle reference to the business plan for Claure’s soccer franchise which — along with legendary player David Beckham and billionaire Jorge Mas — are working hard to take away the Melreese International Links, Miami’s public golf course for a large commercial venture and a small soccer stadium as a loss leader.

Right now, the children’s charity The First Tee brings thousands of kids to that course who either have developmental difficulties or disabilities to build character and social skills on the course.

The billionaire Claure plans to bring his hedge fund Softbank, to the low-rent commercial development which Miami’s taxpayers would subsidize for him and the team.

Softbank is deeply involved with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, whose personal relationship with the firm resulted in a massive $45 billion dollar investment.

According to the below-market no-bid deal City of Miami Commissioners put onto the ballot, Mas, Claure and the MLS team will only have to pay $3.5 million annually or 5% of the rents, which will, of course, be artificially low if the partners are renting to each other as it appears will be the case.

Obviously, a wealthy firm like that could afford to purchase its own real estate in south Florida, but why buy when you can rent from the city in one of Miami’s best locations and pay little more than a song.

Meanwhile, the telecom billionaire Marcelo Claure is laughing his way to the bank with his custom golf gear while he displaces thousands of children of lesser means from the City of Miami’s largest piece of publicly owned real estate.

Here’s Marcelo Claure’s tweet:
